I'm more worried about busting the window as I take that out...I've heard these are really easy to crack/break???
If you've got a new rubber, cut the back lip off the old rubber in the hatch.
Just put a slice through it 90deg to the rubber, lift up one corner where you just cut and slide the knife blade under.
Cut the back lip a little and pull on the bit coming off to allow access (it doesn't grab on the blade this way, so its easier to cut) to the knife blade.
Then just simply cut and peel away the back lip the whole way round and the window will pop straight out.

here we go with a mini update -
I've been thinking what to do with the old mylars, it's hard to get some new ones that fit properly (Pete Jones is on this already) So I've figured in the mean time, I'll paint them.
I figured paint them silver/chrome, or black. Here we go with a lick of silver/chrome; what do you guys think? It's pretty different to the actualy "chrome" on the window trims, but it doesn't look too bad on its own tho....
Pics:
In this one you really can see the difference between the two:
Apart from that, I cleaned the garage today, which was a complete mess, and oh, a clean garage is so nice. Also got a nice new toy off Pete which came in handy cleaning up.
Done a bit more wetsanding and trialling the cutting compoud. the compound seems to work alright using man power, but It would be a whole lot easier using a buffer, although, the paint is only two coats thick, So I think most of it will dissappear if I use an electric buffer.
hmmm. that will do for now. expect some more updates towards the end of the week.
yay for winning stuff on ebay!!
they look like this: (well they are these actually)

Always liked the look of the Globe Bathusts, I had them on my first Beetle. They are quite a classic design from the heyday of the golf and quite appropriate for the era.
Just make sure you get the right wheel nuts, they shouldn't be too hard to get hold of if they didn't come with the wheels. If they're flat seats make sure all of the holes have the washers in them.
Enjoy!
Pete
